Today we drove the Cabot Trail, heading north along the east side of the peninsula, past Ingonish and Cape North.  We stopped several times and saw some amazing scenery, as is shown in the photos we took.  We had lunch at Meat Cove about 50 minutes in the north east part of the island where everyone had the famous seafood chowder (except Brenda of course).  It's a very remote community with sections of gravel road to town.  The town was only a few houses, campground and a small restaurant.  What they lack in accommodation they more than make up for in breathtaking views.  After lunch we continued down the west half of Cabot Trail with more amazing views, but sadly no whales were seen.  We ended the day with supper at McCurdy's fine dining in Baddeck, which was one of the best meals of the trip.

The unfortunate realization came to us after the day's trip is that there will be no fall colours in the area. Whether caused by the hurricane or the summer drought, we noticed all the leaves have turned brown.
