China: Day 16 - Xi'an (AM)

Our last day included what we considered to be the highlight of the entire trip, so I have broken the day into morning and afternoon entries.

In the morning we visited the Ancient City Wall, the most complete city wall remaining in China. It has enjoyed several facelifts over the last few decades, but the basic underlying structure still exists in most areas. The wall was built when when Xi'an was the capital of China, to protect its residents from marauders. During the day the gates were opened, allowing peasants to tend their fields and merchants to come and go. However at night the gates were locked.

Since there was only the 2 of us traveling with the guide and driver, we didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the variety of fresh prepared foods at each meal. We usually ate lunches and dinners buffet style, and while the food was good, we didn't have the variety and the company of our group.

Our guide adjusted the schedule of our 2 days in Xi'an to allow us the most time to spend visiting the Terracotta Warriors.
