Race Day! After another leisurely breakfast, we decided to check out the off-road race in the desert. There was a spectator viewing area located only a couple of miles away, so we loaded up our chairs and cameras and headed to the east side of Bouse to check out the race. The Bouse "Y" Spectator Area is shown on the map below.

We arrived at about 10:30 AM and found a parking lot with about 50 other spectators. Definitely not what we expected, but after watching for a couple of hours its apparent that the off-road racing is not a huge spectator sport. The race is run like a rally, with each vehicle essentially in a race against the clock. A vehicle will speed by, and you sometimes have to wait up to 10 minutes for the next one to arrive. They blast by in a cloud of dust and off into the distance. We overheard several spectators who appeared to be knowledgeable, state that it takes about 2 hours to make a full lap of the route. Some of the race classes make 2 laps and others make 3 laps. It is very interesting to see them coming, as you can see the cloud of dust for several miles. Before long they roar past and you can see the cloud of dust disappear on the horizon.
