Today we headed to out to explore the area to the south of Halifax. First stop was at the Swiss Air Flight 111 Memorial. Its a short walk from the parking lot to monument stones. It appears they are angled in way to look out on the ocean where pieces of the aircraft (and of course bodies) were found after the crash. Looking at the map, we realized that the debris was spread across a huge area.

The next stop was at Peggy's Cove, home of the famous light house and nearby harbour. Our friend Deb had visited there just a couple days earlier, and warned us it was a busy place. We arrived fairly early, but there were still 50 or 60 people wandering the area.

While driving up to the parking lot, we spotted a uniquely named shop called "Hags on the Hill". Brenda wandered down the road from the parking lot, took a few pictures and we picked her up near the small dock.

Our last stop of the day was at Lunenburg.  We arrived just in time to see the Bluenose II leave port with a bunch of eager tourists on board. It might have been nice to take the trip, but that was the final trip for the next few days as the boat was scheduled for a couple days maintenance before moving on to another port.

The buildings in downtown Lunenburg were very colorful and housed some great shops. There were still quite a few tourists and cars parked along the road, making it impossible to get that perfect "postcard" photo.

We had lunch in a nice little restaurant, and I had some great seafood chowder. Afterwards we found a nice little shop that made their own ice cream, and we had to indulge.
