As we continue our tour of area, we decided to take a trip to the northwest and visit the area close to Burlington, Vermont. The day was overcast and dreary as we headed out, driving through towns like Lancaster New Hampshire and Montpelier Vermont. We learned Montpelier is the capital of Vermont, and even with obvious state employment in the area, the average income of an individual is only about $30,000. We noticed the homes are not as large and well-kept and some of the other areas that we have passed through.

We tried to get down to Lake Champlain to take pictures, so we spotted a place called Shelbourne Park. However when we got down to the park we realized that it was heavily populated with cabins and we couldn't see any way of accessing the water. So no pictures but we did manage to see glimpses of the lake and numerous boats moored out in the water.

As we traveled it became obvious the leaf change was much further behind as you got closer to the lake. Without a doubt the area that we are camped in will be the most picturesque in the next few days. Along our route it was difficult to find good locations for pictures with the heavy overcast and low clouds covering the tops of some hills.

As we were leaving Lancaster New Hampshire we ran into a heavy thunderstorm. Lots of lightning and the rain was so heavy the wipers could not keep up clearing the windshield. We pulled over and stopped for a few minutes and let the storm pass, but little did we realize that the storm was heading for our campground. About 7 p.m. we experienced lightning and heavy rain that lasted for several hours. Fortunately Baxter seem to ignore the rain pounding on the roof and wasn't bothered by the thunder. Thankfully our trailer and the campground stood up to the rain without any problems.
