After the heavy rain overnight, our campground was very wet and soggy. You could see the ridges in the gravel roads in the campground left behind by the torrents of water. There were lots of leaves on the ground, obviously brought down by the rain.

We're not expecting any sunshine today, so we decided to just travel the area, checking out some of the roads we have not traveled to date.

Heading west from the Jefferson Campground, we traveled through Lancaster, south to Carroll, west again to Bethlehem, and south to Lincoln where we picked up the Kancamagus Highway.

The Kancamagus is famous for its colourful displays of fall leaves and the many hiking trails in the White Mountains area.

We traveled through Conway again, and the traffic was crazy busy. It dawned on us that we had been warned about how busy the area gets because of the fair being held down the road in Fryeburg, Maine, but we never believed that it would affect a nearby town such as Conway. I can only imagine what it will be like on Saturday, as the fair winds up and all the weekenders arrive to view the area scenery.

Once through Conway, we headed north on Hwy 302, and then branched off on Hwy 16 to Jackson, then Gorham and eventually home to our campsite. It didn't seem like a long distance, but it took us in excess of 6 hours to make the round trip.
